Safa Abdulareesh immigrated to the US 32 years ago. But she never stopped cooking the traditional foods of her hometown, Be’er Sheva, Jordan, which she learned from her mother and grandmother.
A retired Islamic teacher, Safa now focuses full time on her home and cooking.
For our July Immigrant Kitchen event, Safa will present a four-course, traditional Palestinian meal.
Menu sneak peek:
Musakhan, considered by many to be the national dish of Palestine, Musakhan is chicken roasted with onions, sumac, allspice, saffron, and fried pine nuts served over Taboon Bread (a yeasted bread traditionally prepared in clay ovens). In Palestine, this dish celebrates the olive oil harvest; olives being deeply rooted to Palestinian culture.
Kunafa, a beloved Middle Eastern dessert made with shredded phyllo dough (kataifi), cheese filling, and a sweet syrup
This dinner will include storytelling from Safa’s cultural background.
