Free Immigrant Kitchen July 20!
Viktoriia Pavnova presents her menu of Ukrainian comfort food
Thanks to the generosity of a grant from the Minnesota Humanities Center, Immigrant Kitchen will be offering a series of free, open to the public events throughout 2026.
After Twin Cities Metro Surge which halted our programming, we are thrilled to be returning to the meaningful work of creating unity and safety in our community using food as a tool.
The first event will take place on Monday, July 20 at Lynette in South Minneapolis. Co-hosted by Viktoriia Pavnova, who is part of the influx of refugees from Ukraine, we will present a four course meal of comfort food from Viktoriia’s background, accompanied by storytelling.
“Many Ukrainians who came here because of the war left behind homes, careers, friends, and familiar places. Some may never be able to return to the places where they grew up,” says Viktoriia. “Many of the items on our menu remind people of family gatherings, childhood, student years, and everyday life back home.”
Menu:
First course: Fresh garden salad with homemade garlic dressing and traditional pickled vegetables
Second course: Ukrainian potato & cheese dumplings with caramelized onions and sour cream
Third course: Ukrainian Sausage served with garlic-roasted potatoes, fresh dill, caramelized onions, cheese, homemade garlic sauce, and signature spicy sauce
Dessert: Zefir – a traditional Eastern European sweet similar to a giant marshmallow, very popular in Ukraine
