I first heard it behind our bar (not a good place to hide, bro, you’ll be found out!)
But it turns out, he (she? they?) were just fine. At first, I thought it was my phone, as my phone rings cricket sounds (if yours doesn’t, I’m sad for you, it’s the only acceptable ring of all of the standard-issue Apple rings) but it couldn’t have been because my phone wasn’t ringing. I said,
“There’s a cricket in the house.”
But Sean didn’t believe me. Couldn’t be, he said. But was coming from behind the bar.. He kneed the cupboard, and the chirping stopped. By this time, my three-year-old niece had come trotting into the dining room to hear the cricket.
“I want to hear the cricket!”
